Before going shopping for my hospital bag essentials i did a bit of googling and looking at images on Pinterest to help me figure out what was worth taking and what wasn't.

I ended up packing way too much, so i have narrowed down what i thought was worth taking to help out those future mamas!

Definitely take a robe or a dressing gown, i found this helpful when you had visitors and you just wanted to chuck something on over your nursing singlets. Loose tops, i had some really nice cotton ones as it was summer when i had my little one so they weren't too heavy to wear. I literally lived out of my maternity pants, i just had some loose slouchy ones that were super comfy!

I didn't really take many outfits just took a couple pair of loose fitting pants and then i had a whole heap of singlets. Anything that needed a wash my mum would take home and wash. I was in hospital for 4 days which i know this is generally a little longer than most so you could just take ex amount for how ever many days you intend on staying for.

Nursing singlets are great especially if you plan to breastfeed. I got a whole heap from Target and they were reasonably priced too.

Maternity bra's are a given, i had good bras all the way through my pregnancy, i think it's important to have good quality bras regardless. I recommend getting some cheap maternity undies, i got a heap from Kmart and Target. There is no point getting expensive ones as they do get blood and all that lovely after pregnancy things!

After pregnancy your body doesn't snap back into what it was pre pregnancy, so i do suggest loose fitting clothes that are comfy. You've just given birth you don't need to look that fab!

The next few items that i mention i strongly suggest to anyone who is about to have a baby. A water bottle, in hospital they only give you those small cups and then when your so thirsty and you can't find a glass because the cleaner has taken the dirty dishes! Just so much easier to have your own water bottle and fill it as you need. Dry shampoo! o m g, i literally couldn't be asked washing my hair and then drying it. I'm fortunate enough my mother in law is a hairdresser so the day we were being induced she came to cut and color my hair and we all know that your hair is so much better after going to the hairdressers.

I remember discussing at work if people thought i was crazy for wanting to take my own pillow to hospital because my partner did. I think it was one of the best choices. The hospital pillows are so hard and nothing beats your own pillow.

Face wipes are a good option if you can't be bother washing your face each day as we do get in that newborn bubble and get a case of the cant be f'd. I remember when i was in labor and i said to my partner "omg, wipe my make up off please." Felt so much better having a clean face.

I know the next item you're going to think "aren't they for old people?" honestly, they are so great. I found that the maternity pads look like they wouldn't do the job. I did bleed a lot so i'm so glad i purchased the depend undies. They also give you some support around your lower belly. I used them plus the hospital pads just to be sure i wouldn't leak through.

The next couple of items are what every mum and dad should take, camera and phone. My partner has a good quality camera which i'm so thankful for. It beats the good old Iphone snaps that's for sure.

These are just a few of my top hospital essentials. Every mum to be has their own and it's always good to look at several 'what's in my hospital bag' whether it's on YouTube, Pinterest or like mine a blog.
